Parsley, our adorable Virginia opossum, came to Cottontail Cottage after being found orphaned and unable to survive in the wild. Despite early intervention, Parsley has permanent limitations that prevent her from being released safely.

Today, Parsley plays a vital role as one of our ambassador animals. Her curious nature and calm demeanor make her a favorite during educational programs, helping visitors learn about the unique habits of opossums, their ecological importance, and how to safely coexist with these often misunderstood mammals.

Parsley’s story reminds us that even animals who cannot return to the wild still contribute enormously to conservation and education efforts.

Virginia opossums are North America’s only marsupial. Newborn opossums are tiny, blind, and hairless, clinging to their mother’s teats for weeks. Their remarkable adaptability helps them survive in diverse habitats, but injuries or orphaning often make life in the wild impossible.
