Cookie & Cocoa

Cookie and Cocoa were rescued after being abandoned outdoors, where domestic rabbits are unable to survive on their own. Unlike their wild counterparts, domestic rabbits rely entirely on human care for safety, proper nutrition, and shelter. When they arrived at Cottontail Cottage, both were underweight and in need of medical attention and socialization.

Because domestic rabbits cannot be released into the wild, Cookie and Cocoa now serve as beloved ambassador animals. They help us educate the public about the differences between wild and domestic rabbits, the responsibilities of rabbit ownership, and the consequences of releasing pets outdoors.

Through school visits, community programs, and on-site education, Cookie and Cocoa gently remind visitors that wildlife rehabilitation and responsible pet care often go hand in hand. Their calm personalities and sweet bond make them powerful advocates for compassion and informed animal care.

Did You Know?

Domestic rabbits are descendants of the European rabbit and are not native wildlife. Releasing a pet rabbit outdoors is dangerous and often fatal, as they lack the survival instincts needed to avoid predators, find appropriate food, or withstand harsh weather conditions.
