Auggie

Auggie, arrived at Cottontail Cottage after being found injured and unable to survive on his own. Despite dedicated rehabilitation efforts, Auggie sustained permanent injuries that made release back into the wild unsafe.

Today, Auggie serves as one of our cherished ambassador animals. His unique coloring and gentle personality make him a favorite during educational programs, where he helps teach visitors about the differences between wild and domestic rabbits, proper nest identification, and when intervention is truly necessary.

Auggie’s story reminds us that while not every animal can return to the wild, each one still has an important role to play in conservation and education.

Did You Know?

Wild cottontail rabbits are born without fur and with their eyes closed. They grow quickly and leave the nest at just a few weeks old. Because they rely on camouflage for protection, even slight injuries can make survival in the wild extremely difficult.

Sponsor Auggie

Symbolically adopt Auggie to help provide his daily nutrition, veterinary care, enrichment, and safe housing. Your support also helps fund the rehabilitation of hundreds of native small mammals each year.

Help Us Support Wildlife

We rely on donations from our community to provide rescue, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and education programs. Every contribution helps us create second chances for native wildlife and expand awareness across New York.
